Guttering, fascias and soffits
Blocked, sagging and leaking gutters, rotten fascia boards and damaged soffits, repaired or replaced across Portishead and the surrounding areas.
The roofline does a lot of work in a wet climate
The Met Office puts annual rainfall in the Bath and Bristol area at around 800 to 900mm, with more wet days in winter than summer. Every drop that lands on the roof goes through the gutters. When they block, sag or leak at a joint, water runs down the wall, soaks the brickwork and finds its way into fascia timbers and wall-plates.
On hillside houses in Redcliffe Bay, Kilkenny Fields and Raleigh Rise, where some homes drop several levels on the downhill side, gutters can be a long way up, so they tend to get ignored until something overflows. We clear, repair and replace them with the right access for the height.
Roofline work
Gutter clearing
Leaves, moss and silt removed and downpipes flushed, with photos of anything that needs attention.
Leaking joints and outlets
Perished seals replaced or sections renewed so joints stop dripping.
Sagging runs
Brackets refixed or added and the run re-set to a proper fall so water reaches the outlet.
Fascia boards
Rotten timber fascias replaced in uPVC or timber, with the bottom row of tiles and the felt at the eaves checked while they are off.
Soffits and ventilation
Soffits replaced, with eaves ventilation where the loft needs it.
Cast iron and period gutters
On older houses, especially in the conservation areas, we can repair or replace like for like rather than switching to plastic.
Good to know
Water on the wall is a warning
Green streaks or damp patches under a gutter usually mean a leak at a joint or an overflow. Caught early, it is a small job.
Felt at the eaves
Old roofing felt rots at the eaves first. If fascias are being replaced, it makes sense to fit an eaves support tray at the same time.
Conservation areas
Swapping cast iron for plastic on a listed building or in a conservation area may need permission. We will check before we quote.
