Frequently asked questions

Do you charge to come and look at my roof?

No. The inspection and the written quote are free, with no obligation.

Which areas do you cover?

Portishead and the surrounding areas, including Clevedon, Nailsea, Pill, Easton-in-Gordano, Portbury, Weston-in-Gordano, Walton-in-Gordano and Clapton-in-Gordano.

How quickly can you come out for a leak?

As quickly as we can reach you. For active leaks and storm damage, call 0800 494 7291 rather than using the form.

Should I repair or replace my roof?

If the problem is local, such as a few slipped slates or one failed flashing, a repair is usually right. If faults are spread across the whole roof because the fixings or felt have failed, replacement starts to make sense. We will show you photos and explain which applies.

Why is my roof leaking near the chimney?

The usual causes are failed lead flashings, cracked flaunching on top of the stack, or rain soaking through porous brickwork. Each needs a different fix, so we check which before we quote.

My house is in a conservation area. Does that affect roof work?

Portishead has four conservation areas: Court Farm Environs, West Hill and Welly Bottom, Woodhill Road, and East Wood. Like-for-like repairs are normally fine. Changing the roof material, or work on a listed building, may need permission. We will tell you if we think it does.

Why does my flat roof hold water?

Ponding usually means the deck has sagged or was laid without enough fall. Patching the membrane will not fix it; the fall needs correcting.

Do you use slate or tile?

Whatever suits the house. Slate and concrete tile, including pantiles, are both common across Portishead. We match the existing covering on repairs.

Do you need scaffolding?

For many repairs, roof ladders and edge protection are enough. Taller buildings, steep drops and larger jobs need scaffold. It will be listed on the quote.

Is your work guaranteed?

Yes. Work we carry out comes with a 20 year full written company guarantee covering workmanship and the materials we supply.

Do you publish prices?

No, because the price depends on access, size, covering and what we find. Our roofing cost guide explains what drives the cost, and the quote itself is free.

Do you work on flats and managed blocks?

Yes. On managed buildings we can quote and report to the managing agent or freeholder.

Conservation area names from planning.data.gov.uk records for North Somerset.
